Allerton and BMW's Dream Season!
Procon Maxima BMW's Glen Allerton went into the final ASBK round at Phillip Island with the number 1 proudly on the front of his S 1000 RR.
The 2011 ASBK Champion went into the 8th and final round still battered and badly bruised from the crash at Symmons Plains but determined to ride well. The Phillip Island weather conspired to make it even more difficult for him. Over the weekend the high winds and rain pushed the bikes across the track and the lack of full strength in Glenn's damaged arm, left him at a disadvantage.
He was not deterred and went out with the same determination he had shown all season.
In Race 1 Glenn was in a tight and exciting battle for the final podium position, grabbing 3rd place by the barest of margins. It was Glenn's 12 podium of the season.
Race 2, the final race of the 2011 season, Glenn was swamped on the start line and into a battle behind the race leaders. The wind had picked-up making riding difficult for everyone. In the end Glenn had to settle of 6th place.
Glenn and his BMW S 1000 RR dominated the ASBK Championship from Race 1. This was the first complete ASBK season for the dynamic and powerful BMW S 1000 RR. Glenn and the whole team used their talent and experience to extract the best from the class leading machine. The victory gave Glenn his second Australian title and BMW Motorrad and the S 1000 RR their first taste of victory in Australia's premier class.
"It was a difficult weekend but to realize I have won the 2011 title at the end of a long season is amazing. So many people in the team have worked hard for this, I have to thank everyone at Procon Maxima BMW for their hard work week in, week out and also all of those people behind the scenes that have helped me make the most of this opportunity including BMW Motorrad who have been so supportive" said Glenn.
For Procon Maxima BMW Team Principal Wayne Hepburn it was a time to reflect on a fantastic season.
It started in a rush after Glenn had his first ride on the BMW S 1000 RR at Phillip Island prior to the season. Thanks to the help from BMW Motorrad we had it all together quickly and we were ready for Race 1. It has been a fantastic year. Glenn's dedication and professionalism and that of the rest of the team has been outstanding. It is a credit to all involved that sees the Procon Maxima BMW Team the first ever privateer team take the ASBK title. Thanks again to all involved, said Wayne.
General Manager BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand, Tony Sesto, was excited for Glenn and the Team.
